Another successful Pass on the Gift Month in 2010

April is indeed a special month for all. For those passing on the gift, it’s a month of ramification; the final showdown of months of preparation, hard-work and the fulfillment of a promise made. For families who are struggling for sustenance, hope comes in many forms. With Heifer, it takes the form of a goat, a buffalo, a flock of chickens, a reassuring hand and solid belief. It is just what is needed for strong and resilient families willing to work hard with hope in their hearts. Families with faith and the willingness to help those struggling like them.

Passing on the Gift Month once again proved to be a time of giving in Nepal. In 83 events that took place across the country more than 1700 families received more than 3500 animals along with support and hope from other families. Gifts of goats, buffaloes, pigs, fodder seeds, skill and training exchanged hands. A commitment was also passed on along with all these gifts, a promise to pass on the hope to many more in the future.

The pass-on ceremonies, a series of coordinated events throughout the month was also an opportunity for the communities to involve other stakeholders. Many events were attended by key persons of the government administration like the Chief District Officer, District Livestock Officer, District Forestry Officer, Local Development Officer creating grounds for future collaboration. It was also a chance for the community to show their potential and attract investments from the government and other stakeholders. As local electronic and non-electronic media covered these events a common undertone could be noticed; about families who had braved the trenches of poverty and were now helping others overcome.
